A second-rate plot distinguished by a first-rate cast. Andrews, a writer who witnesses an execution, has a discussion with editor Blackmer, who suggests the two carry out a ruse to show the fallibility of circumstantial evidence. Blackmer encourages Andrews to confess to murder and go to trial, with Blackmer holding back evidence which will prove Andrews is innocent.
