The Rat: Review

Heavy-handed story has Walbrook as a jewel thief who goes by the name "The Rat." He is given charge of the daughter of one of his mates when the latter faces life imprisonment. The girl, Ray, makes a cozy home for Walbrook, but trouble erupts when Chatterton takes a liking to the thief, and tosses out her boy friend, who has been taking care of her. Piqued and out for revenge, the boy friend heads for Walbrook's place where he encounters Ray, and attempts to abduct her. But the girl fights back, murdering the man. Honorable fellow that he is, Walbrook takes the blame. But Chatterton appears in court and testifies that Walbrook was with her the night of the murder. The girl gets the rap, but due to circumstances, the sentence is light. Story moves along at a plodding pace, with little by way of direction or performance adding the needed spark. leave a comment
