1960, Movie, NR, 105 mins

This enjoyable farce has sax player Curtis arriving in New York ready to set it on fire with his talent, but finding that fame is not so easy to come by. After his first step off the bus, he is hosed down by a gang of street urchins, setting the tone for the rest of his expedition. But all is not lost as he meets and falls in love with Reynolds, a girl in a position similar to his own. The struggles they go through strengthen the bond between them. A well-written script, a perceptive directorial eye, and strong performances from some of the lesser players give this picture a warm and charming tone. However, Curtis' character is inconsistent, vacillating between hipness and total naivete. leave a comment
