Ransom

1956, Movie, NR, 109 mins

This film was adapted from a made-for-TV movie, with footage added to make it feature length, thus harming the overall suspense. Regardless, it's still a well-spun, taut drama which keeps viewers twisting and turning in frustration. When Ford and Reed's young son is kidnaped, the entire town becomes deeply involved in the ordeal. Ford easily comes up with the needed $500,000 ransom. But before delivery he changes his mind, going on the tube instead to offer the money for the capture of the kidnapers should the boy turn up dead. This doesn't set too well with Reed, who goes into hysterics. Ford's plan seems to work, though, as the boy comes back alive. Ford gives a strong performance, with Reed portraying her usual stoic self. leave a comment
