Rampage: Review

Mitchum is totally wasted in this silly safari film (it has been reported that Mitchum appeared in the film to provide a nice South Seas vacation for his family during filming). The film features him as an international big-game trapper hired by a German zoo to capture a rare Malaysian cat which is half tiger, half leopard. He is joined on his journey by aging big-game hunter Hawkins, who is accompanied by his mistress, Martinelli. In the brush, tension soon develops between the hunters as Hawkins begins to demonstrate a disturbing penchant for paranoid behavior. He accuses Martinelli and Mitchum of having an affair. Though Mitchum does have designs on Martinelli, he keeps it to himself until they capture their quarry. Back in Germany, Martinelli confesses to Hawkins her love for Mitchum. This snaps Hawkins' already frayed mind, and he releases the big cat with the hope that it will kill Mitchum. As it turns out, the cat kills practically everybody but Mitchum. Meanwhile, Hawkins corners Mitchum and Martinelli and raises his rifle to shoot them, but the cat leaps out of nowhere and kills Hawkins. leave a comment
