It had all become a bit silly to Lamour in what seemed to be her millionth "sarong" movie, so she keeps a charming, self-effacing profile throughout this South Seas epic. Sailors Bracken, Lamb, and Sullivan find themselves washed up on a desert island, the only survivors of a ship that has been sunk by the Japanese. They capture a Japanese plane and, after a harrowing escape, they crash-land on another island populated with beautiful, scantily clad native girls, and equally unclothed native boys who like to roast white men for dinner. Luckily the swabbies are saved by Lamour, a white woman who had been shipwrecked on the island years ago, who shows the natives that Bracken resembles their god. To save their skins, Bracken is forced to go along with the trick, but he can no longer eat, drink, or chase the native girls because gods have no use for such trivialities. Songs include: "Beloved," "What a Day Tomorrow," "We Have So Little Time," and "The Boogie Woogie Man Will Get You if You Don't Watch Out" (Ted Koehler, Burton Lane). leave a comment
