Perhaps the most fascinating development in animation in recent years has been the rise of full-length films with limited, poor animation, usually done in Japan, and based on a line of toys or similar products. Rainbow Brite is a character developed by Hallmark for a line of cards, but
now she has made the jump to three-dimensions as a doll and to movement on the screen in this lackluster kiddie fare. Little Rainbow is responsible for the advent of spring in the galaxy when she goes off every year to the diamond planet of Spectra to get all the colors. Trouble erupts this year
when a spoiled princess steals the planet for her jewel collection. Little Rainbow teams with a lad named Krys to go off and rescue the planet. The animation is wretched, and the whole thing is so sickly sweet as to be almost nauseating.
