Racketeers In Exile

Offbeat gangster film in which Bancroft plays a big-time mobster, hiding out with his gang in his own hometown. There he encounters a religious revival which inspires him to start his own lucrative racket by becoming a "born-again" evangelist, and going out on the road seeking donations from guilt-ridden businessmen. Of course, Bancroft pockets the dough for himself, but eventually he sees the error of his ways and puts the money to good use. Interesting premise that sadly does not live up to its potential.
