When cynical millionaire Steven Wendel (Smith Ballew) buys a new colt, he hires the animal's former owner, Ruth Martin (Ann Dvorak), to train it. The trainer and new owner nearly strike sparks until Ruth realizes that the millionaire really cares little about the horse and is simply hoping it will gain publicity for his auto manufacturing business. Dvorak struggles painfully against the histrionic performance of Ballew, who made his film debut here after a career in radio. Harry Carey, no stranger around horses, plays down-on-his-luck-but-savvy trainer Tom Martin, father of the principled Ruth. Partially based on a Damon Runyon story. leave a comment
