When the slightly dotty, extremely old, and very wealthy Remington sisters (Danielle Daven and Anne Marie Fox) prepare a banquet to celebrate their upcoming birthdays, they invite their beloved nieces and nephews--who, of course, secretly can't wait for the elderly ladies to kick the bucket. The tables are turned on the greedy celebrants, however, with the arrival of a mysterious package from one nephew who has been disinherited because of his devil-worshipping activities. When the birthday girls open their surprise gift, the black-sheep nephew exacts a terrible revenge: transformed magically into the slobbering harpies of the title, they begin adding their nasty dinner guests to the menu. Although the film defeats itself somewhat in its excessive goriness, RABID GRANNIES is a biting attack on greed and a yummy parody of haunted-house movies. Viewers who can overlook the occasional inconsistencies and can accept the gore (as well as the predictability of the "Ten Little Indians" formula) will enjoy watching each successive house guest become a tasty treat. leave a comment
