The Quiet Earth

Because it is probably the first science-fiction film from New Zealand and certainly the first to make an international breakthrough, THE QUIET EARTH gets away with a weak story that would be inexcusable in an American film. Zac Hobson (Bruno Lawrence) awakes one morning to find that everyone on Earth is gone. Confused, he wanders the streets of Auckland looking for survivors. For a time he sends an endlessly repeating message over a radio station, but no one answers. As the totality and finality of his situation begins to set in, Zac starts to go a little crazy.
