London and Steel are a married couple. He's a race car driver who occasionally flies off the handle in jealousy over his wife; she hopes that a coming baby will make the marriage work. They are involved in an auto accident that causes her to miscarry and renders Steel sterile. She still wants a child and suggests artificial insemination. Steel grudgingly agrees, but changes his mind after she goes through with it. His father urges him to seek a divorce and Steel does. The case goes to court, but the jury is hung. It's just as well, for the pair reconcile and go on to a happy marriage. An insipid drama masquerading as an issue film, but the real subject is only briefly touched on and its ethical questions carefully waltzed around. Characterizations are extremely limited by the weak script. At best Steel wears a mean look and quietly glowers. London is better but can only go so far with the part. The direction is slow and never builds tension. leave a comment
