This boa-constricting chiller chokes all the common sense out of its besieged characters but still manages to sneak in a few jolts. Somewhere in the Ural Mountains, rebels shoot down a plane transporting goods for a joint Russian-American scientific mission. After the cargo is shipped to a nearby military base, a Russian general orders technicians to open the biological weapon box. A 12-ton, 18-foot python slithers out and decimates the base in its feeding frenzy. CIA agent Greg Larson (Billy Zabka) answers Uncle Sam's call to corral the mega-python and assembles an elite squad of soldiers and snake wranglers. But he doesn't tell the whole truth to Yankee expatriate Dwight Stoddard (Dana Ashbrook) and his wife, Nalia (Simmone Jade MacKinnon), when he engages their moving van. The Larson band and the Stoddard crew arrive at the military base, which appears deserted; once the python starts munching on the new arrivals, Larson receives new orders — instead of bringing back the monster alive, he must merely obtain a sample of its DNA...as though that's going to be any easier. In addition, Larson is under orders not to leave any witnesses to this international military fiasco. Dwight and Nalia intend to survive but the acid-spitting snake temporarily blinds Nalia, the only crewmember small enough to squeeze through air vents and sneak out of the compound to retrieve bomb materials. Worse news greets the survivors when they deduce that Russian and US forces plan to eliminate the python by blowing up this entire facility. Caught between Larsen and the snake, can Dwight and Nalia trick the serpent into swallowing some C4 explosives? This B-movie lacks the novelty value of its predecessor and crosses the line into camp heaven when the sightless heroine outmaneuvers the giant reptile, but genre fans should enjoy its vigorously ridiculous contrivances. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
