A hissing horror in which computer-generated monster snakes terrorize a snall town. Agent Bart Parker (Casper van Dien) is sent by the government to retrieve the cargo from a top-secret military aircraft that crashed near a sleepy, depressed small town called Ruby. Unfortunately, the plane held a gigantic python that ate the crew and slithered away from the crash site. Ruby native John Cooper (Frayne Rosanoff), a professional cyclist, has returned home to help his brother run the family factory. His former best friend, Deputy Greg Larson (William Zabka), is seething because since his return John has taken up with Kristin (Dana Barron), who dumped Greg. But personal tribulations take a back seat when something kills two campers, a real estate broker and the broker's wealthy client. Because the mutilated bodies are drenched in acid, the local police assume the acid came from John's factory and treat him as a suspect. Meanwhile, Agent Parker presses the snake's former keeper, Dr. Rudolph (Robert Englund), for answers about military's interest in breeding a reptilian killing machine. Agent Parker leads a squad to Ruby in hopes of killing the mutant python before it does further damage, but Dr. Rudolph secretly protects the creature, which he regards as an "evolutionary chimera." Greg and John bury the hatchet and join forces with Kristin and her friend Theresa (Sara Mornell) after mutual pal Tommy (Wil Wheaton) is gobbled up by the python. The only way to keep Ruby from becoming a ghost town is to lure the python into an underground trap, but Dr. Rudolph sabotages their plan — unless he recognizes the error of his ways, the town's inhabitants are doomed to become snake food. Monster movies live and die by their monsters, and this picture's CGI creature looks sadly fake. The film's first three quarters are padded and camped up, but the conclusion is a surprisingly exciting race to blow up the skin-shedding menace. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
