McShane is an American playwright living in Rome. Fearing both baldness and recurring dreams of a sex-craving gorilla, he consults Darden, a rather odd, bewigged shrink. In his sessions McShane discusses his past and present amours. He's got problems with his wife (Calder-Marshall), who is
having an affair with famed movie idol Gavin. Gavin is just using her to get McShane's play "When in Rome Do as the Romanians." This leads to a wild slapstick chase through a Roman film studio, where McShane's assorted lovers, his wife, and her lover inadvertently end up in a cheap western. The
movie ends as McShane finishes telling his story to Darden and suddenly the sex-starve...
