The Purple V

This routine thriller programmer was invested with a WW II theme to satisfy public demand for such fare. Kortner is a German schoolteacher who refuses to be a party to Hitler's madness. He helps a lost American flyer, Archer, back to the Allies when his plane crashes. Archer carries with him some secrets about the North African campaign, which he delivers to their destination. Kortner is killed by the Germans, but dies a hero. The picture is slow to start, but once the story gets underway, this film has some good suspense elements. Look for an appearance by a young Lawford.
