Purple Heart Diary: Review

This is a propaganda film for the United Service Organization (USO), showing a trio of players (Langford, Lessy, and Romano, playing themselves) entertaining the troops of the Pacific theater. The thin plot involves the joy they bring troops and the inspiration felt by King, an amputee who's lost his self-respect. The USO somehow inspires the man to go on living and to continue his romance with nurse Towne. It's really minor fluff at best, but the musical numbers are enjoyable. In the end that's all this film is about anyway. Songs include: "Hold Me in Your Arms," "Hi, Fellow Tourists," "Where Are You From?" (Johnny Bradford, Barbara Hayden, Tony Romano), "Bread and Butter Woman" (Allan Roberts, Lester Lee), "Tattle-Tale Eyes" (Bradford, Romano). leave a comment
