Stanwyck is the mail order bride of North Dakota farmer Brent. She was formerly a torch singer (crooning the prophetic song "Take Me Away" early in the film) before becoming sick of the city. Talbot is her bootlegging boy friend who sets her up with Brent. Though they get off to a rocky start, Stanwyck soon comes to love the simple farmer and marries him.
