Psychomania

1964, Movie, NR, 90 mins

This cheap little horror flick, the first directorial effort from the screenwriter of THE HORROR OF PARTY BEACH, isn't bad for what it is. Filmed in Stanford, Connecticut, it tells the story of some murders at a girls' college. Philips is an artist who likes to work with nude models. When one of them is found dead, he's a prime suspect. The direction has its moments of imagination but is more often inept and sluggish. The camera work is better than one would expect. In 1964 this movie was considered quasipornograhic because of its nudity, but it is relatively mild by today's standards. Don't miss Farentino as a lawyer and Van Patten, who went on to star in TV's "Eight is Enough," playing a cop. His presence alone makes this worth a look for a good laugh. leave a comment
