The Promoter

This rags to riches story stars Guinness as a young, poverty-stricken student who alters the grade on his high school entrance exam to ensure his enrollment. He later advances from his position as a lowly law clerk through a series of jobs with increasing responsibility and financial reward, until he finally makes it big in business. He founds a loan company and eventually becomes the mayor of his town. Along the way he succumbs to the charms of several women, including Johns, an impoverished tenant from whom Guinness must collect the rent, and Clark, who becomes his wife.
