Beatty attempted comedy in the manner of Cary Grant in this film, but lacked Grant's versatility for slapstick routines. Caron plays a widow residing in Greenwich Village with an 18-month-old baby. She works for child psychologist Cummings, who actually hates kids. Looking for a new mate, she has her eye on Cummings, hiding the fact that she has a young child.
