McLaglen and his cohort Whalen are hired by some shady individuals to kidnap the boy prince, Bartholomew, of a mythical European kingdom in order to allow a new political party to take control. They have no problem whisking the boy away; he is tired of the stuffy royal lifestyle. The kidnapers are caught and jailed, but when McLaglen discovers the evil intentions of the new government, he escapes and goes about rescuing the boy and returning him to his throne. The direction and script are well conceived, but are severely hampered by production standards that harm the believability of the story. Just the charisma of McLaglen is enough to carry his performance, with Bartholomew a likable boy king. A memorable scene occurs when prisoner Bartholomew is allowed to indulge in craps and baseball. leave a comment
