The Pride Of St. Louis

Thanks to a fine performance by Dan Dailey, this film biography captures the spirit of one of the most colorful figures in baseball history, legendary St. Louis Cardinal hurler Jerome Herman "Dizzy" Dean, who is remembered almost as much for his mangling of the English language as a sportscaster as he is for his brilliant pitching. Beginning with Dean's days as an Ozark hillbilly, the story follows him as he struggles up from poverty, into semipro ball and the minor leagues, and onto the mound for the Cardinals.
