The first big success for director George Cukor and the first talking picture to take a jaundiced look at Hollywood, making it perfect for Oscar time. Constance Bennett is a waitress determined to break into show business; Lowell Sherman is the big-shot director who takes her under his wing. Her star rises as he drinks himself into obscurity.
