The Prairie

Adaptation of a novel by James Fenimore Cooper centers on a family that moves into the newly opened Louisiana Territory. The family must fend off starvation and the possibility of attack from Indians in order to survive. They come upon Aubert, whose family has been killed by renegade Indians. The addition of the girl brings strife to the family as the two sons fight for her affection. But she winds up attaching herself to Baxter, an Army cartographer who has more than once helped the family out of some sticky situations. A good cast and decent script could have used higher production values and stronger direction.
