A sensitive look at the relationship among three people, Frey, Gonzalez, and Murillo. Frey and Murillo are recent victims of disastrous marriages, finding relief with the bisexual Gonzalez. Frey leaves the setup, creating temporary friction between the other two, but he returns with Jamet, who has conventional values and who, after some internal conflict, decides to join them for a menage a quatre. Complex theme is given a nice treatment by Serreau in her first feature. Attempting to explain her purpose in making this offbeat film, Serreau says that her characters, whom she finds likable, "have found a way of life convenient for them--not necessarily for everyone." leave a comment
