Rather stagy adaptation of artist David Wojnarowicz's autobiographical writings, somewhat redeemed by the elegant cinematography of red-hot indie camerawoman Ellen Kuras (SWOON). The boy David (Olmo Tighe) struggles to come to terms with an abusive father; as a youth (Michael Tighe),
he's seen hustling tricks and hanging out on the fringes of the queer underground; the adult David (Jim Lyons) takes a symbol-saturated road trip through the American West. British director Steve McLean is earnest and unexciting; Wojnarowicz's maundering reflections on art and homosexuality aren't
particularly inspiring.
