Charlie (Mickey Rourke) is desperately trying to escape his old neighborhood, and Paulie (Eric Roberts), his dim-witted cousin, is always looking for a get-rich-quick scheme. Diane (Daryl Hannah) is Charlie's girl friend. When he learns she is pregnant, he agrees to go along with a wild plan involving the mob, safe cracking, and a racehorse.
