Gassman arrives in England, where he has inherited a fortune from an eccentric old aunt. When he visits her home and finds the place run down, he sells 13 antique chairs to raise money for the fare home. To his horror Gassman later finds a note explaining that the fortune was hidden inside
one of the chairs. He goes to gallery owner Tate, to whom he sold the chairs, and from this point it's a mad dash across Europe to find the missing loot. Eventually it's found in a chair that's owned by some nuns who are raising funds for an orphanage. Nothwithstanding a few good cameos,
particularly by Welles and De Sica, this film doesn't have much to offer. The old Russian fab...
