Piranha

PIRANHA is an early effort from Joe Dante, the director of THE HOWLING; GREMLINS; and INNERSPACE, in which he successfully combines laughs and chills in a parody of JAWS. Menzies is a detective out to trace a missing couple who have disappeared somewhere in the woods. During her search she meets up with the reclusive Dillman, whose help she enlists. Together they trace the couple to a supposedly deserted Army base, where they drain a pool to see what is on the bottom. Only after it's too late do they learn that they've released a school of superbred killer piranha into the river--an indestructible strain of fish that doctor McCarthy developed years ago for the Army...
