Pipe Dreams

1976, Movie, PG, 87 mins

Singing star Knight made a respectable acting debut here as a woman who travels to the wilds of Alaska to track down her husband, Hankerson (Knight's husband in real life), who has left her to work on the pipeline. Once in town, she is forced to room with Bain, a prostitute (the frontier-town ratio of men to women is out of proportion, making prostitution very lucrative for women so inclined). Tippit, a pipeline tycoon, finds himself very enamored of Knight and attempts to convince her to become a call-girl. She refuses, eventually finds Hankerson, and the couple are reunited. Director, producer, and writer Verona (THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH) handles the plot with sensitivity and humor. Knight does a fine job and does not sing on screen (though the soundtrack songs are done by Knight and the Pips). leave a comment
