Handsome, moody and foreboding, this seriously underrated dark fantasy offers an adult perspective on the story told in the far more light-hearted Fairy Tale: A True Story, which also introduced fictional characters into the matter of the real-life 1917 "Cottingley fairies" hoax. A widowed portrait photographer (Toby Stephens) travels to the English countryside to investigate the claims of a mother (Frances Barber) that her two children cavorted with genuine fairies and captured the otherworldly entities on film.
