Another Warner Bros. 3-D horror extravaganza, PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE is, unfortunately, nowhere near as good as the studio's previous effort, HOUSE OF WAX. Basically a remake of MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE (1932), this version stars an unbelievably hammy Karl Malden as a crazed scientist/zookeeper who hypnotizes a big ape (played by a monkey-suited Charles Gemora, who appeared in the 1932 version) and sends it out to kill all the good-looking women who won't have anything to do with the scientist.
