Naish stars as a gun-toting thug who hooks up with the seductive Morison (a Broadway singing star in her debut film performance, though she doesn't utter a single note) for a gas station robbery. Morison's extravagant tastes and her desire to live in the fast lane lead to a string of holdups and bank robberies. Before long the lovers try their hand at kidnaping and finally get nabbed themselves when their victim is able to recall the flight path of airplanes that flew over the hideout. Rather than glorifying the exploits of its Bonnie and Clyde, PERSONS IN HIDING glorifies the FBI. Based on FBI head J. Edgar Hoover's nonfiction best-seller, Persons in Hiding (actually penned by ghostwriter Courtney Ryley Cooper), this picture sanctifies the methods of the agency. The G-men are placed high on a pedestal and made infallible, while the criminals are painted as wholly evil. To further celebrate the FBI, the film includes instructional scenes of fingerprinting techniques and criminal deduction. PERSONS IN HIDING was the first of four pictures to be culled from Hoover's book. Others were PAROLE FIXER; QUEEN OF THE MOB; and UNDERCOVER DOCTOR. leave a comment
