Johns plays a 17-year-old who starts trouble when she falls hopelessly in love with her teacher, Genn. The small-town biddies begin to chatter when Johns disappears after Genn's wife, Tierney, confronts the teenager about her obsession. Soon after the girl's departure, her beret is found floating in the river, putting Genn under suspicion of murder. After three days, Johns returns and says she has been to London to visit some friends and think over her infatuation with Genn. Though everyone is relieved that she is alive and embarrassed that they suspected Genn, things will never be quite the same between the teacher and the community. Though the film suffers a bit from an overly preachy finale, the performances carry it off. leave a comment
