Pearls Of The Crown

This interesting historical drama written and codirected by Sacha Guitry tells the story of the seven pearls of the English crown. Three were lost forever, but, over the generations, the remaining four found their way into the hands of various notable people (Napoleon, King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth were among their owners). Guitry plays four roles, Delubac plays three, and Harding, Moreno, and Plenne play two apiece. Although Guitry chose to push the audience's patience a bit by filming the story in three languages, PEARLS OF THE CROWN is one of his finest works, and perhaps his least theatrical.
