Stanley Kubrick's first great film is a harrowing masterpiece and one of the greatest antiwar films ever made. Kirk Douglas stars as the commander of a World War I French infantry regiment who's ordered to mount a suicide attack on an impregnable German position. When the maneuver ends in disaster, Douglas must then defend the three soldiers who are to be court-martialed as scapegoats.
