This was the seventh of the nine movies in which off-screen mates Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy appeared together, and the second of the two they made with director George Cukor and screenwriters Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin. Hepburn plays Pat, a perky college PE instructor and a gifted athlete; Tracy is Mike, a somewhat shady sports promoter who recognizes her talent and persuades her to turn pro.
