Taylor stars as a jazz musician engaged in a battle with some crooked record company executives who prefer to let violence and money rule their business. With the encouragement of his mystical grandfather, Muse, he turns to his African heritage for answers to his dilemma. A battle ensues between Taylor and the mobster-run company, resulting in the death of Taylor's close friend. Inspired by the past achievements of his black race, Taylor succeeds in overpowering the killers and emerging victorious. Muse, a 87-year-old actor who first appeared on-screen in 1929, turns in a commanding performance as the wise old grandfather. Clark directed the film as a degree requirement at UCLA, and writer Lange later appeared as "Isaac" on TV's "The Love Boat." leave a comment
