Mainstream Hollywood has seldom addressed homosexuality without stumbling over itself; with its cliches and superficial characterizations, this film is no exception. Benson (Ryan O'Neal) is a straight cop teamed with gay police clerk Kerwin (John Hurt) to uncover the killer of a male
model. The story follows the problems the men have as they pretend they're lovers living in a gay apartment building. The jokes are flat and predictable and the portrayal of gays sophomoric and embarrassing. O'Neal has frequently chosen to act in less-than-brilliant material, but Hurt is a
superior actor who doesn't belong here.
