The world has come together, formed the New Organization of Nations (N.O.O.N.), and dedicated itself to space exploration. But during the launch of their new "space jeep," an ecology group known as Clean Space electronically seizes control and demands the entire program be cancelled to keep pollution from spreading any further. A second space jeep is readied to assist the other, but its female pilot is waylaid and held hostage by Clean Space. Obviously, this is a job for a half-dozen gals in miniskirts, just the sort of team Ilona (Sybil Danning) has trained. Ilona traces the Clean Space kidnapers to the tiny country of Wazura, where the military dictator has a heavy moustache and plans for world domination. PANTHER SQUAD looks 10 years older than it is. The color is washed out and occasionally disappears completely. The sound is wretched and the way the film cuts away from people whenever they speak (to avoid having to synch the dialog) is hilarious. Danning, who has been the best thing in a lot of bad movies, seems utterly uninvolved. The surprise of the film is that there is no sex, no nudity, no bad language, and almost no violence. leave a comment
