This amusing comedy introduced Ham Fisher's famed comic-strip pugilist to filmgoers. Here manager Knobby Walsh (wonderfully played by Jimmy Durante in his first big role) is center stage as he discovers Joe (Stuart Erwin) knocking around a gym and trains him for the inevitable big fight
with the drunken champ (William Cagney, brother of Jimmy). The dialog is clever, the direction of both the comedy and the fight scenes is assured, and "Schnozzola" even gets a chance to sing his trademark "Ink-a-Dinka-Do!"
