Widmark plays a wealthy candy manufacturer. He's a workaholic, which has caused his wife to divorce him, leaving Widmark with their five-year-old son (Winslow). The kid is a real hell-raiser, so Widmark places him in a progressive school. The class is taught by Dru, who improves the boy's behavior and eventually becomes the romantic figure in Widmark's life. Along comes ex-wife Totter, claiming that their Mexican divorce is invalid. She claims Widmark must pay her a large endowment or lose custody of Winslow. Though she loses the suit against her "ex," Totter gains custody of Winslow. Realizing what's important to him, Widmark pays Totter the money, regains custody of the boy, and together they start a new life with Dru. This is a pleasant little comedy, though the leads seem to be thinking about their next pictures rather than this one. Winslow naturally steals the show, acting like a real child rather than a cute movie kid. The direction isn't bad, with good comic flair when appropriate. leave a comment
