A fine, slightly dated melodrama features Mae Marsh (D.W. Griffith's "Pet Sister" from BIRTH OF A NATION, 1915) as the widowed mother of a large brood. She has been consigned to the poorhouse by an ungrateful son. Another child returns from his wandering ways and sees what has happened. Angered, he goes to the poorhouse and brings his mother back to her rightful place in the family home. This drama boasts of some wonderful performances, particularly that of Marsh. Her silent training does her credit in this film, where she is often able to convey emotion without having to say a word. The direction is restrained, allowing the drama to speak for itself.
