Whalen is writer and editor of the news sheet in the prison where he is doing time. Even though he contributes to legit papers, he has trouble finding work when he gets out. He eventually buys a small printing press, with the help of a prison loan, and freely attacks the corrupt politicians whose power influences the news that the major papers print. Soon the prison warden is out of a job, but with Whalen's support he runs for governor and wins. A fine script and an equally compelling performance from Whalen add up to an entertaining picture. leave a comment
