Ida Lupino's first directorial outing was this thoughtful story of the effect of rape on Powers, a working girl engaged to a handsome young man. She is so shaken by the attack and the response it receives from the locals that she leaves home and settles in California under a new identity.
She is befriended by Andrews, an understanding minister who helps her overcome her trauma and return to her fiance. A touchy subject for the time, admittedly overdone in spots, but on the whole admirable. Lupino would go on to produce and direct other feature films and TV projects.
