Outbreak

This thriller about a deadly African virus wreaking havoc in the US features Dustin Hoffman--looking a bit out of place--in his first action movie since MARATHON MAN. He's a military epidemiologist; Rene Russo (IN THE LINE OF FIRE) is his ex-wife and colleague. Director Wolfgang Petersen effectively exploits lurking paranoia in the first half; the second half features technically accomplished but very familiar helicopter chases.
