Movies don't come much sloppier than this self-styled black comedy from director Malcolm Mowbray. John Lithgow stars as Dave Geary, a thoroughly dull butcher who is used and abused by nearly everyone, including his business partner, Ernie Cannald (Bruce McGill). Married to Sunny (Teri Garr), for whom he and Dave were once rivals, Ernie's an old-fashioned kind of guy who constantly philanders and slaps the wife around if she questions him. Fed up with this brutality, Sunny hires private detective Lester Atlas (Randy Quaid) to follow her husband and photograph his extramarital activities for use in divorce court.
