Othello

1955, Movie, NR, 108 mins

starstarstarstar
Released in the USSR in 1955, this version of the Shakespearean play is inexcusably damaged by Universal's insistence on dubbing the picture instead of using subtitles. This botched dubbing detracts from the beautiful Soviet landscape, which releases the story from the usually confining quarters of the stage. Bondarchuk's performance and Khachaturian's score are the film's prime assets. leave a comment

My friend and I disagree over ...

Question: My friend and I disagree over who starred in Simon & Simon. She says Perry King and Gerald McRaney, but I say Parker Stevenson and Gerald. Who is right? I have been looking for info on the information superhighway, but haven't found anything yet. We would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks bunches.

Answer: Oh, Florell. Have you any idea what this dispute of yours could do to poor Jameson Parker's feelings? You see, when the actor was riding high and starring with McRaney in the hit series — which was originally supposed to be called Pirate's Key before its November 1981 to December 1988 run on CBS — the prospect of such mistakes was already keeping him up at night.

"When you look at the names of actors in TV Guide from 10 years ago, there aren't many names you remember," he said in 1985, motivated by the fact that though the show was popular, even its f read more

I know you've written about ...

Question: I know you've written about on-set fighting in the past, so I'll ask you about another rumor. Was it true that Jamie Lee Curtis and Richard Lewis fought a lot while they were on Anything But Love?

"I've never been involved in a show without a few problems," Lewis told TV Guide in 1989. "That's why this so-called controversy with Jamie and me is so laughable. She has a point of view, yes. There is some tension involved, even on the best of shows. We like to joke with each other, and some people misunderstand that. Hey, this isn't Othello. We have read more
