Ophelia

1962, Movie, NR, 100 mins

Released in Paris in 1962, OPHELIA is one of Chabrol's worst films and certainly one of the least flattering examples of the New Wave. Jocelyn, upset with his mother's marriage to his uncle, patterns his revenge after Shakespeare's "Hamlet," an idea which occurs to him after seeing Olivier's version of the film. You would think Jocelyn might have learned a little something about acting by watching Olivier, but he turns in an atrocious performance, as does everyone else in the cast. (In French; English subtitles.)
